About
Initially inspired by the dreamy and magical vibes of modern City Pop music by artists like Yukika, Kim Areum, and the Korean animation series Alien Stage — YOOMEi is an upcoming global City Pop-style Artist taking a unique approach to the retro genre, blending her gentle vocal tone with elements of her previous career background and childhood passions: K-Pop, Japanese RPGs, and anime. She hopes to share fragments of her heart in English through auditory and visual storytelling, which is why she calls her genre Cinematic City Pop.
YOOMEi was first introduced to the public as a member of the idol trainee group Zioletta (지올레이타) at the end of 2020. She later debuted as a solo Japanese Pop-Rock music artist in 2022, serving as the composer and lyricist, but stepped away after a few months. After catching the eyes of various talent scouts from some of the top entertainment companies in South Korea and Japan, YOOMEi deleted her social media and secretly dedicated herself to the quiet lifestyle of a K-Pop idol trainee. Unfortunately, she had to leave that dream behind due to severe health complications, and she considered becoming a ghostwriter instead. Although reluctant to ever step back into the spotlight, her debut concept ideas came to her in the summer of 2024 while she was traveling back to her hometown.
Opening the door to her new era with Chapter 0 on July 30th, 2025, she released her Pre-Debut EP called Echoes Of Love with the title track "Ever Begin" as a soft transition to her new sound and creative direction. YOOMEi is still in the process of making changes to her artist concept and image, which will be fully revealed along with her Official Debut in Early 2026.

• YOOMEi changed the pronunciation of her stage name because it coincidentally sounded too similar to the Japanese word for "Famous". Her stage name is now pronounced as “Oo-May”, with a silent Y. It is now a play on a part of her Chinese name 梅 (Mei • meaning: Plum) and the Japanese pronunciation of the same character 梅 (Ume • meaning: Plum).
• YOOMEi's role model is Yukika. In her trainee days, her role model was Miyawaki Sakura.
• YOOMEi passed more K-Pop company auditions when she decided to switch to the Rap category instead of Vocals.
• YOOMEi's early experiences creating art were during her high school days, where she crafted cosplay costumes and weapon props from video games and anime.
• YOOMEi had a channel where she live-streamed herself learning songs on the piano without any sheet music.
• YOOMEi still has an active contract with an agency for acting, but she is taking a hiatus.
